stillsostrange: (Elbow sex)
I meant to write the haunted castle (with bonus demon birds) tonight, and instead ended up with some dub-con genderfuck sex. Oops. I'll get to the damn birds one of these days.

Once again I am reminded of the sekrit truth behind heteronormative fiction: same-sex pronouns are a pain in the ass.

I think my brain is finally coming back online, though. Today I figured out another bit of timelining that need readjusting, and have successfully readjusted.

29. Norse Code - Greg van Eekhout

I was firmly against this book due to my hatred of pun titles, but [livejournal.com profile] matociquala talked it up, so I caved. And it is in fact smart, funny, grim, and adorable. These are not Marvel's Aesir. Not entirely as crunchy as I would like, but it washed the nasty taste of Giants in the Frost out of my mouth at long last. And seriously, best wolves ever.

30. The Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan

I sell so many of these at work I thought I'd check it out. It's okay, but I am nowhere as charmed as I was by Harry Potter. Cute ideas, but the characters and the worldbuilding don't grab me. And while I like Percy's mom, I'm getting sick of the trope of placing children in abusive homes to "protect" them.

31. The Shadow Pavilion - Liz Williams

Not my favorite of the series, especially after Precious Dragon made me cry, but still lovely.

32. A Free Man of Color - Barbara Hambly (reread)

I loff these books so. LOFF.

I feel like I'm forgetting something, but that may be because I'm in the middle of four other books right now and they all start to blur.
