In which I whine

I'm going to take a moment to whine to LJ about my book, because sometimes this is useful for getting unstuck. So...

Waah! Stuck! I mean, this is no surprise--I always get stuck in the middle--but I have a deadline to meet and no time for this foolishness. I am especially frustrated because I know all sorts of things that need to happen in the second half of the book (masked balls! gaslighting! sorcerous plagues!), but I can't seem to get there from here. If I could take a week off and chill and not worry about it, I'm sure it would gel, but I don't have the luxury of a week off at this stage of the deadline.

It would really help if my antags, so newly laden with motivations and grudges, would actually antag a little, instead of sitting around being fraught and fabulous. :P

Words today: a bunch, and a bunch ripped out

As usual, the whining helped. So did trying (in vain--though I now know how to get the door panel off a Ford Fuckup) to fix my car window. I realized that instead of trying to rush past the Royal Fact-finding Commission (with bonus demon birds), I need to accept the fact that it's coolshit, and give it the time and coolshit it wants. Adequate coolshit is remarkably like plot, after all.

I also realized that even though my word meter is set to 100k, I have in fact never written 100k of novel. (That's real words, not SMF.) So even though I keep flailing about as if I'm in the middle and need to pad things, in fact I'm probably 2/3rds of the way done and getting ready for a nice domino spiral as soon as I find all the pieces.

I also pushed the whole thing two weeks forward in time, so I'm not left with a month of downtime in the middle, because I so foolishly locked myself into a specific date for an event in TDC.
