I am very nearly done with the stair landing. I trimmed the carpet in the doorways back, ripped up the last tack strips, swept and vacuumed. Then I realized that what I thought was a weird discoloration on the boards was actually a large puddle of liquid level which had spilled out of the bathroom. Either it was meant to smooth the floor under the bathroom lino, or it was sealing in evil spirits who I have now freed. Either way, that fucker is gone. I beat it to pieces with a hammer and pried bits up with my fingernails. I have powdered leveler in my hair. And probably in my lungs. It was a very satisfying destruction.

After that, I swept and vacuumed again, and swabbed up the last particulate. Now I'm waiting for the boy to finish cello practice in the upstairs office, and then I'll pour on the laminate primer. Tomorrow, tile!
