He was not a true love of mine

I recently commissioned a doll from
humglum, based on a character from the faerie not-a-book. I was going to ask her for another one, when I realized that I had at least three other characters I wanted dolls of. So I said to myself, Self, maybe you should try this yourself.
So today I went out and bought paperclay, and some tools, and tried this myself. My first attempt is far from perfect--his skull is grossly misshapen (luckily mostly where hair will hide it), the hollow of his throat is upside down, and that may be more nose than any one doll needs. But on the other hand, he is recognizably a doll, and that is awesome.
His head and torso are drying in the oven now, and tomorrow or Thursday I'll start his arms and legs. Then comes paint and hair, and then I get to figure out how to sew doll clothes. Because what I needed was another involved crafty hobby.

Family and I got delayed in LA for a day after a cancelled flight and your wonderful book "The Drowning City" kept me enthralled for most of the airport time. I remember reading some of it on OWW but I loved being able to cradle and devour it in ridgy-didge book form.
