If, in theory, one were ever to develop a lesbian zombie-apocalypse roadtrip adventure past a short story, should one go all the way and make it a YA lesbian zombie-apocalypse roadtrip adventure?

OK, so you've got the YA lesbian zombie book, and Bear has the YA lesbian steampunk hookers--let's get [livejournal.com profile] cristalia to write YA lesbian, uh, pirates! And then it will be a movement.

PS hurry up, I want to read it.

It seems like there's honestly no content rule in YA other than "be about teenagers." So, it can be YA if you want it to be?

I determine whether something is YA or not by the feel of the characters. So if the characters feel YA to you (by which I don't just mean "if they're in their teens"), go ahead, and if not, don't. I don't think there's anything particularly unsuited to teens or adults about lesbians, zombies, or road trips. Could go either way.

Yeah, what [livejournal.com profile] mrissa said. YA or not is a matter of voice as much as it is about the age of the protagonist(s). Then there's that pesky market thing, which you may want to consult your amazing agent about.

Honestly, not trying to be snarky, but I can't think of a single fiction market where zombies are even mildly underrepresented--never mind "tragically"--except perhaps for romance. And that combination: ew. Really, can't the zombie boom be over now?

As for lesbian apocalypse stories, groovy. And it could be YA or not, as mrissa said above.

I'm sure this is true--I just have less exposure to YA zombies, other than The Forest of Hands and Teeth. And even handling paranormal romances every day still hasn't entirely killed my love of vampires, so I think my zombie-affection won't die down for quite some time.

And yes, it is a zombie romance.

Zombies have even made it into YA romance:

Generation Dead (http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dead-Daniel-Waters/dp/1423109228/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254634002&sr=8-1) and Kiss of Life (http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dead-Kiss-Daniel-Waters/dp/1423109236/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254634002&sr=8-2) by Daniel Waters. (Probably some others I don't know about, too.)
