Where the hell did I pick up "on accident", since I appear to be nearly the only person in the world who uses it? Besides the conclusion that since things happen on purpose, they must also happen on accident, that is.

But, more important than my quirky speech patterns, a meme! Via [livejournal.com profile] mrissa and [livejournal.com profile] mizkit:

Give me the title of a story I’ve never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got submitted to magazines, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I’d been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.

I may try to really write any of the titles you come up with, and I may not.

I can safely say that I have never seen 'on accident' before today, though there was a question about it in an lj community I'm in, as well as your poll.

"On accident" is a standard piece of Texanese, though I've never said it myself.

Yeah, I have that as Texas dialect; the ex-boy used to say it all the time.

I'd never come across 'on accident' before, or if I had I'd assumed it was a typo, but oddly enough I just read a fic about 10 minutes ago which used it.

As for the meme:

You'd never love a slave nor fear a tyrant (because I've been listening to a lot of Norman Waterson recently. Damn, her voice is gorgeous)

What I loved best about this story was the bitterness, and the point where you realise that Nyarlathotep is going to make the worst decision (for himself), not because he has to, but because he's just plain contrary like that - and then he has to live with it. Eternally. As usual with your stories, I adored the quality of the prose, and the unusual, twisted colour of the descriptions.

*comforts* That's okay. I tend to say, "on line" when I mean "in line."

I really liked "A Grey, Insolvent Morning," for the subtle way it interwove hallucination with bitter realities. After awhile you couldn't really tell what was real for the MC, what imagination, but it didn't really matter anymore, because it was the MC's reality, if only inside the mind of one person.

I used it. I didn't realize that people were *supposed* to say "by accident." It's a very Texan thing. I only recently changed. :)

I, too, thought this was universal. Oh, we crazy Texans.

What? Texas isn't the universe? Could've fooled me ;)

I adored "The Dragon in My Eyes" for the way you managed the multiple personalities of the MC, and her (their?) shifts in mood, outlook and motivation. I was amazed how Jenn slid from selfish to self sacrificing and back in the blink of an eye. I cried when Thorn died in the garden to save them all. Your description of the garden was awesome: I could almost feel the textures of the leaves, and smell the perfume of the flowers.

"Children of Ash and Moss" managed to creep me out and make me cry at the same time--and enjoy both, where usually I don't enjoy either.
