I have arrived at Chez [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, also home to a Giant Ridiculous Dog and a Persnickety Pernicious Perfidious Presumptuous Cat. Soon there will be beer and pizza and other adventures.

Traveling across the country has not, however, helped me me come up with a name for this secondary character.

I need a female Indian name, for a pretty socialite whose last name is Jsutien. (Anything too similar to Nikos, Ashlin, Savedra or Isyllt is to be avoided.) I have tried name after name, and she doesn't like any of them. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Sameena/Samina is probably out, then. Gawd. Suddenly I can't think of a single Indian name, which is deeply embarrassing for a former Indian-student-association advisor. Lemme think about it....

Samina my best mate's name.

Umh here goes:

Anusuya
Radhika
Pavan

Pretty sure none of them are too close to the names you listed.

I knew (or knew of) women named Sunita and Vijaya.

And Vasanta, in mythology, is goddess of Spring.

Indian women I know are named Rupal, Varsha, Uma, and Kanchana. (Although I call 3 of them "doctor")

It won't work for an Indian name if you're driving through the upper midwest, but a fun game for road trippers is to read those highway signs that announce the two next towns as if they were names of people. (And then come up with characters to fit, if you're so inclined). The names tend to sound very soap-opera-ish. Rantoul Fisher, Augusta Fairchild, and Salem Sandoval are some of the ones from my list.

Yes, I am a nerd and I travel with nerds.
