In spite of my California crankiness yesterday, it was a pretty good day. My editor (!!!) likes the blurb for Bone Palace, and the book continues to behave. I spent yesterday layering in 50% more forensic details into chapter 1, and generally expositing all over the place.

And today brings this! Eeee! (And wow, I think he blurbed the book better than I did. It's so nice to have professionals to do this for me now. [It's that "currently titled" that fills me with dread, though. It's hard enough coming up with one title I like.])

Today I'm going to pin down the POVs in Bone Palace. I was still waffling over POV at 60+k of TDC, and I do not want to do that again. If I stick with three, I should be okay with Isyllt, Isyllt's boss, and the prince's mistress. Unless I wanted to do an all-girl book like I did in TDC, but then the villainess (mmmm, villainess...) would get the third, and then my Shocking Revelations wouldn't be so shocking... Gah!

The blurb is indeed awesome to behold. Sad that it won't be out until 2010 though! *is impatient* :P

Cool, I didn't realize you'd been published in Stranger Horizons.

My experience has been that Marketing will tell you what they want the title to be. You will have limited veto power. (I nixed using the Kushiel's X model, and they were okay with that--Mélusine's Savage Secrets anyone?) And then they will change it again. Smile and nod. (I'm actually not bitter, because I suck at titles and I know I suck at titles, but none of the four Doctrine books has a title that I would have chosen for it.)

Of course, Tor didn't fuss about the wolf book title, and maybe Orbit has a different approach than Ace.

Marketing hasn't gotten involved with mine yet, but the editor wants something a little more energetic. I'm all for energy, but my brain is much fonder of stately and evocative. When it can even manage that.

Melusine's Savage Secrets would have needed Felix swooning on the cover, in a torn bodice. Possibly whilst clinging to Mildmay's leg.

... Dammit, bad place, bad place!

Wait.

Um... *dies*

That's awesome in a terrible way. Could he still have the mullet? *evil grin*

(it was a hot mullet, btw. Another set of words I never expected to type in my life)

That is exactly the bad place I refused to go, professionally-speaking. Yes.
