As Steven and I were coming home ten minutes ago, I saw a small dog running in our rather busy street. So I went to investigate, and found a small mop-like dog running amok. He has a collar but no tags, is super friendly but horribly matted and dirty, and was unknown to anyone I talked to on that block. So now he's in my living room, getting to know the bear trap. Tomorrow I'll take him to the vet and see if he's chipped, I guess.

ETA: Does anyone know about tiny mop-dog breeds? He's short, shaggy, tan-colored, with a curly plumey tail. Looks kind of like an ewok...

Now with picture!

Unless the angle of the picture is causing optical illusions, he's not a Shih Tzus (http://www.akc.org/breeds/shih_tzu/index.cfm), as they have very squashed little faces. Lhasa Apso (http://www.akc.org/breeds/lhasa_apso/index.cfm), maybe? Or, you know, good old fashioned American mongrel--is his coat soft or harsh?

When he's not matted with filth, he's very soft. His face isn't squashy--he looks like a lhasa to me. Right now he has an unfortunate tutu of matted fur, but hopefully I can get him clipped and scrubbed tomorrow.

Oh, poor pup dog.

Here's some Lhasas (http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/lhasaapso.htm) without the show coat for purposes of comparison. Although if he's particularly soft, he's probably not a Lhasa--at least not 100%. But given the current fad for crossing Poodles with everything under the sun ...
