Now I shall spam LJ with every cute thing my puppy does! Mwahahahahaha!

So far she is the prettiest puppy in pupland, and also a ferocious slayer of stuffed hedgehogs. She also slept through the whole night with nary a whimper or accident. She's still cute enough I don't mind getting up at sunrise to take her outside.

But she still needs a name! So I turn to the wisest of all oracles, the LJ poll.

For those interested in stats, she's a lab/pit bull cross (probably among other things). She has huge floppy bat ears and stompy feet, and a white rorschach blot on her throat and chest. Her interests include toes, leaves, Mr. Hedgie, and running in circles.

[Poll #1241829]

[livejournal.com profile] mekkavandexter suggested Delilah, which I like a lot, but considering that Delilah in my WiP got hit by a car, I'm not sure that's such a great association.

"Gosh," says Ron, "Is it hot in here, or is it just me? Maybe I should take off the enormous sweater my mom knitted me for xmas."

I think you need something that sounds good when you are calling out at the top of your lungs.

Stella?

I tried to get my mom to name the last dog "Duck" for just that reason.

She'll tell you her name. Just give it a day or two.

she looks like a real sweet puppy! is this a sudden adoption, or were you planning on it for a while?

as you're with your pup and name will probably surface that feels right. as cascorona said, give her time.

I am totally with Occam on having a usename for her that can be yelled across a field. but you can have a funky full name as well. my dogs are both named for bodies of water. Chesapeake mostly goes by Chessie or Chess, but we call her by her full name as well and she's good with it. Hannah's full name is Susquehanna, but I don't think she responds to the 'susque' part at all, just Hannah or Han.

It's pretty sudden. One of our old cats disappeared pretty recently, and while I was looking at the pound's website to see if he'd turned up, I found doggies. It was all downhill from there.

My house has a naming convention for pets, so the dogs are Karma, Mojo, and Magick.

Pibble/lab cross is going to be the Best Dog.

I'd call her Matilda.

You could try calling different names and see if she reacts to any of them. Of course, we couldn't do that in my house or both dogs would be named Treat.

Out of all those choices I like Gretchen best.

But if you wanted to keep the dog's name in line with the cats, how about Freya?

I'd suggest Loki even if the her puppyness is a girl, but that's just asking for trouble.

but that's just asking for trouble.

considering Morgan Miranda (sp?), maybe a Loki puppy is waiting for you!

I picked Gretched over Rorshach because it makes me think of the character from Watchmen. Which is a great book, but very dark.

Frankly, I like pet names that make people turn their heads. My best friend had a cat named Spew and a dog named Dammit. I kid thee not.

Also, in the interests of full disclosure, the last dog I had while I still lived with my mom ended up being named Puddles. So, maybe I'm not the person who should give you pet naming advice.

She's welcome to fight crime, if she wants to. I'm hoping she grows up without the issues and paranoia, though.

A key factor: Can you shout it? We had a cat named Rorshach and the answer to that is, "not well."

The first panel of this ultra-dog-violent Dick Tracy strip would make a good puppy icon--the black/white doggy in the foreground is awesome. http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2008/08/16/?campid=0&ssns=9&
