Mist & Chill
Words today: 520
Words total: 4020
Reason for stopping: scene
Opening lines: Vincent leaned back in his seat and watched the clouds. Alpine ranges of frozen crystals slid by below, stratocumulus peaks and valleys, blue and white and silver. They conjured the taste of snow, the glitter and crunch of it underfoot. He brushed his fingers against the plastic pane, hoping for the clean chill of ice and sky, but there was only the lesser cold of the recycled cabin air.
Closing lines: Vincent closed his eyes and thought of winter in the mountains, of clean snow and the perfect emptiness of the sky. Inside him, the ifrit growled and dreamed of a fiery crash.
Words Word don't know: ifrit, samsara
Mean things: spiritual indigestion
Quirks: Vincent will not tell me his backstory. I don't even know his last name. So far we've determined that he's a crazy bodhisattva, was in Tibet fairly recently, and is the nicest antag a girl could hope for. And likes snow. Other than that, not a clue. He may be nice, but I'm going to stab him in the face soon if this keeps up.

Also, Alessande still hasn't given me her first scene. Since she's the main character, it'd be nice if that happened soon. :P If any of you see an anemic Classics major with mild OCD lurking around, please kick her my way.

In other news, today I took all the books off a bookcase, moved it about two feet, then put all the books back on. That was exactly as exciting as it might sound. But with my new and horrible shelving system (three deep on the shelves, in descending height order) I managed to fit all the fiction, with a shelf left over for the inevitable overflow.

I hate to tell you this, but every classicist I've ever met is mildly OC. So are medievalists.

What she said.

OC

You have to be toward the OC end of the scale to be a philosopher, copyeditor, physician, . . . . Hmm, there are lots of things such that you have to be toward the OC end of the scale in order to do them well. So, Amanda, what do you mean by "mild OCD"? If it is breaking her life in some way, it's a disorder; if it's working for her, it's a trait, with helpful and unhelpful aspects. Does she pathologize it? That is, does she regard her obsessions and the corresponding compulsions (if any) as disordered, or as just the way she is, or as part of how she is able to do what she does, or all of the above by turns, or in some other way? And so on.

I mean she's a Virgo. :P

More about how Alessande is OC

[identity profile] peoppenheimer.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Does Alessande feel compelled to tell, confess, and explain? Does she hoard? Is she subject to scrupulosity? Is she religious? If so, does she redo religious acts because she hasn't done them perfectly? If not about religion, is she that way about morality? About relationships? Does she tear up a page after revising the first sentence thirty-two times, trying to get it perfect? Are all of her books in LC order, with their spines the same measured distance from the front edge of the shelf? Does she arrange them all in LC order, and then re-arrange them in chronological order by date of birth of principal author/editor?
