Hah! I have managed to fit all my fiction* from Richard Adams to Roger Zelazny on one 4x4 cube Ikea bookcase, while maintaining alphabetization and some rude shelving aesthetic**! And it doesn't appear to be about to collapse. Of course, as soon as I did this I realized the shelf would look much better if I moved it...
Now if only I had a shelf for the non-fiction, the gaming books, and all the graphic novels.
----------
* Not counting duplicates (between me and Steven we have three copies of The Silmarillion and three copies of Children of Dune, and doubles of a lot of other things), or books I bought for lit classes and will never read again but never managed to sell back.
** I suspect this will survive two more trips to the bookstore. Assuming any boxes of books aren't still lurking in the garage. I know I'm missing some.
