I watched Near Dark again today, and besides being reminded how much I love it and how unspeakably hot Lance Henriksen was, I uncovered a couple of song samples I'd forgotten. One of which I cannot remember where I've heard it.

The lines are from the bar scene.

Bartender: What do you people want?
Jesse: just a few more minutes of your time. About the same duration as the rest of your life.

There is an ebm/industrial song that opens with that, and I cannot remember what it is. Does anyone know?

Emaciated Lance Henriksen... I'll be in my bunk.

(I also didn't realize that Diamondback was also Vasquez from Aliens--"Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?" "No, have you?" [If I could use the huge portion of my brain that holds movie quotes and song lyrics toward psychic powers, I'd be the fucking Phoenix.])

The bar scene... The only music I remember is the riff that comes up when they pool table breaks... is Jon Parr's Naughty Naughty....

I know the line with the bartender, but can't think of the music sample.

Diamondback/vasquez... Lance and Bill paxton were all from Aliens... The director of Near Dark (K. Bigelow) was married to aliens director James Cameron, when Near Dark was made.

Not sure Bigelow ever created anything that worked quite as well as near dark, though her subsequent millenial angst movie, and serial killer movie (Blue Steel) all had interesting moments. But Near Dark was fucking magic!

I know I know the song...but my copy of Near Dark is 10 hours away right now.

I really think Near Dark is the best vampire film ever made. Truly. And the commentary/making of...Henrikson sure puts himself into a part.

Jenette Goldstein (Vasquez/Diamondback) is amazing. She also played a steerage passenger in Titanic (the one who sang her children to sleep while the boat sank), a cop in Lethal Weapon 2, and John Connor's foster mother/form of the T-1000 in Terminator 2.

LOL! You are so lucky, though--I can hardly remember my own name these days. It's like a big, echoy cavern in here and if there ever were any psychic powers, they went down the big drain in the center of the cavern :D

Great post :)

Hey, we both finished a rough draft, cool, huh? Shall we try for a new pact for a new story? Say, October 15?

Say, October 15?

You are very optimistic. There's a reason my goal is 6 stories for a year. :P

I'll see how much I can do by the 15th, but a safer goal for me would be the 30th.

31 days from now, an eternity!

I was all set to negotiate for 20-25 days, but I've been getting a few knock-knocks to slow down and spend a little more time on my stories.

I think the 30th sounds great :D

Based solely on Bishop in Aliens: yes.

Well, it's not on the soundtrack I can tell you that. It sounds like country. I'll ask my father-in-law.

The song with the sample? No, I'm pretty sure it's EBMish. I probably heard it on Digital Gunfire.

Right when the bartender asks, "What do you people want?" or when they walk in the door? The song when the bartender asks, "What do you people want?" Appears to be this one (http://www.diggiloo.net/?1971lu12) by the singer is wrong.

I don't mean the songs playing in the scene, I mean a song that samples those lines of dialogue. The other sampled bit I spotted is Mae talking about the night--"Do you hear it? Listen for it." That's used in a God Module song. I'd be surprised if no one else has sampled ND, since it has a lot of good lines.

Oh! Well, then I'm entirely a blank. But I want to know when you find it!
