I'm trying to change my user name to another one that I have set up, which according to the FAQ I can do. However, the FAQ fails to state exactly how, because the regular rename link won't do it. I've spent my $15, so I'm damn well going to get this done.

Anyone know what I'm missing?

Uh, where you say "another one that I have set up" - I'm wondering what you mean by that.

Meaning it exists, with a name and password and all that.

I haven't looked at the FAQ recently, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do that until you redeem the Rename token. I have another LJ that I renamed a few years ago, and I seem to remember that's how it worked.

According to the FAQ:

You can rename any personal or community journal to another username as long as the other username is unregistered, deleted and purged, or under your control.

But the place the rename token takes you doesn't seem to recognize that a name is under your control, and I can't find another option.

I think you need to look at the Renaming FAQ (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=25) again, since once that username is "under your control" you're actually hitting a different set of circumstances than simply chaning your username. See "Special Cases" - "Renaming To Your Other Personal Journal".

OK, I'm confused because when this started out I thought you just wanted to do a simple rename.

But if the switch is what you want to do instead, and if your passwords and email addresses are the same for both, uh, I'm stumped. You broke me.

By the way, I apologize if I was annoying. It has been pointed out to me that I frequently end up being annoying when I'm trying to help. Obviously I still need some work on that.
