2,000+ words today on Kingdoms, finishing two partial chapters and taking me past 60k. My antag finally did something creepy.

Because it entertains me, I'm stealing an idea from [livejournal.com profile] gailcarriger: character studies. Images, actors, music, etc. that remind me of people in my books. And to start, of course, is everyone's favorite underfed necromancer with relationship issues.

Isyllt Iskaldur

The light was unkind when she drew aside her scarf--she'd lost weight where she had none to spare, and bruises darkened her cold grey eyes. With her pale skin she looked like a bardi beyaz--the white jackal women who prowled cemeteries and sang for those about to die. (Kingdoms of Dust)

"If her magic didn't kill me, her hipbones would." (The Drowning City)

I'm sparing you the autopsy photos, but they're with us in spirit.

A question for my nautically-inclined friends (and apologies if I've asked this before):

My intrepid band are on a muthafuckin' boat ship, by which I mean a generic, primarily-cargo-limited-cabin-space, Age of Sail sort of ship. Where might they go to stretch their legs, talk about backstories, and have knife-fights where they would be least in the way of the ship's crew? I can find lists and descriptions of various decks, but I'm not sure which ones would be least crowded at any given time.
