16. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how “far” are you willing to go in your writing? ;)

Oh, meme. Must we be cutesy and childish?

I won't talk about anything spoilery for The Bone Palace, so I'll use an example from a not-yet-sold set of books. We start with a grad-school relationship tested by hardship and monsters, which blossoms into an adventuring-team sort of marriage. The marriage is strained over the course of too many adventures, and disintegrates into madness, affairs, and an eventual suicide, which leads in turn to drinking and bitter recrimination, and years of avoidance before an eventual brittle reconciliation. I think that's a fair example of how I do with romantic relationships, and how "far" I'm willing to take them.

But there's also Prayers, my girl meets ghoul, girl loses ghoul, girl wins ghoul back Lovecraftian romance, and that has promised me a happy ending. By my standards of happy, at least.

And now it's time to clean the cat boxes, give Skippy his medicine, and go to bed. Goodnight, Internets.
