Inception is made of win, awesome, and sparkle ponies. I loved it so much. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has grown up pretty adorable, and kept reminding me of other people. It's an excellent compare & contrast exercise when paired with Shutter Island, which I also loved. Although... Ariadne? Really? That was a blunt instrument of a name.

I've been lax about the Valkyrie Wednesday reports, but I haven't been a total slug. Mostly a slug, though, and that needs to stop.

6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?

Anywhere I'm comfortable with a laptop. Usually my desk or on the couch. I sometimes write in bed, but that leads to slouching which leads in turn to back pain, so I try to be good about not doing so. I like morning and early afternoon best. I like morning light, and the sense of accomplishment I feel when I get out of bed at a reasonable hour. This doesn't happen as often as I'd like, though. Computer, computer, computer. I'll write with pen and paper if that's all I have, but I tend to end up doodling and making lists of character names. The best I'll manage is dialogue and rough blocking.

Kingdoms of Dust

Words today: 745
Words total: 16,426
Mean things: fraying sanity
Deaths: I killed this guy a long time ago, but finally disposed of the corpse.
Linguistic dilemmas: Sciomancy? Sciaturgy? I don't like either of them. I prefer obtenebration, but, well, you know. Maybe this one could have a Latin root, and be based on tenebre? What would be a good suffix for that to denote magic/working/crafting? (And geeze, I thought I overused "shadow" and "darkness" before I gave a shadowmancer POV.)

At long last, they are on the boat. I had to skip the scene that's been giving me trouble for weeks. A professional consultation indicates that the idea behind the scene is sound, but my dialoguer is broken. Hopefully we can get the parts for that in the next week or so.

I want to write a short story to go with The Bone Palace, a little backstory about how Isyllt met her vampire buddy, but I need a title so it can start accreting plot. It will be about necromancy and vampires and serial killers and the nature of monsters, and hopefully something a little shinier than all that too. Any suggestions?

7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?

Always, if I'm at home. All my stories have soundtracks--Kingdoms' currently has 56 songs. Several of my stories have been inspired by song lyrics, and lyrics help me fine tune backstory and characterization. The worst case of this was the scene in Dreams that I could only finish after listening to "Assimilate" on repeat for an hour.
