stillsostrange: (Listen)
Tomorrow morning I'm leaving for a two week roadtrip to Montana, to help my mother deliver Optimist Dog to my sister's new house in Missoula. We'll also be stopping at every conceivable state park on the way home. Internet access will be spotty at best--I can only hope I can get some writing done longhand in the car.

In twenty minutes I'm taking Miss Gretchen to the vet for her bordetella shot, and then to investigate a potential daycare. Whee!

At some point today I also need to pack, get stuff ready for the post office, print out the stories I want to work on, and buy last minute travel stuff. I wanted to go climbing, but the magic 8-ball is skeptical of that.

Success! After much toil and driving, Gretchen has daycare. I spent the morning trying to contact one place that offers training and boarding, because I thought that might be convenient. But no one ever answered the phone, or email (that I sent last week), and when I drove out there today (during stated business hours), they were closed. Reader, I disapproved. I caught someone leaving, who gave me a number to call and said they should get back to me after a day or so. I made the bunny face again.

So I went to my vet and asked for recommendations, and was given a brochure. And lo, it was a well laid-out brochure with pleasing colors. (Not that this has anything to do with taking care of dogs, but my inner technical writer was soothed.) And I went to their website, and it too was not fugly, and also great with information. And I called the number, and a nice boy answered it! And he answered my questions! So I ran to the vet to get Gretchen her bordetella thingy, (where she met her latest BFF, a 10-week-old bulldog who ran in circles with her and then sat on her head) and then drove to the nice phone-and-question-answering boarders (who are only five minutes from my house![I like parentheses!]). And the nice boy was there, and exclaimed over the cuteness of Gretchen, and introduced her to his charming pit, and gave me forms to fill out, and I can drop her off tomorrow morning before I leave, and everyone was happy.

The end.
