I sent two new routes top-roping tonight. They're still unrated, but my instructor declared them a 5.7 and a 5.9. That would be my first 5.9, and I'm especially happy because I was one rope-dogging away from pwning that thing.

Only 400 or so words on Dreams today, which were all new added backstory. I'm not sure it works yet--the adding, not the backstory itself--but it's sure as hell better than the lack of all characterization and exposition I had before. :P

And man, I should hang this book from a gibbet as warning for all: kill your darlings! No, really. If you've gone through contortions to keep a line or a scene or a thing from one draft in a new draft, kill it and find a new cool thing. There is so much crap in here that I furiously justified to myself because it was cool in the first or second draft (or in the damn CoC campaign that inspired the book), that makes no damn sense in the last draft. It all dies this time.

But if the backstory insertion is working, then I have nearly 5 chapters that I'm happy with now.

Dear Kerbey Lane:

Please put a warning on your damn breakfast tacos, to indicate that they are bigger than one's head.

Less loff than usual,

the girl who shouldn't have eaten both of them and is now egged to death

And that's the corpse of chapter 6.

New tyop: already four in the mourning
Darling that lived: And by the time Hrothgar built his mead-hall, she was asleep in his arms.
Quirks: Rae tells me that all her trippy scenes would be trippier in present tense. I can't really argue with that.
The Pain: The first 300 words of chapter 7 were entirely pointless transition. And the rest of it is a hot hot mess. I'm starting to get the fear.
