NaNoWhatMo?
Oct. 6th, 2005 10:49 amI've noticed a few people on my flist wondering what they should do for NaNo. I shall wonder too.
What should I do for NaNo?
2005 has been a good year for short stories, but not so hot for novels.
So far I have:
Dreams - about 40k into a revision. Trying to get the plot to support its own weight and remove the ten million gallons of illegal suck from the prose.
Prayers - 15k of some of the most gorgeous prose I ever wrote, no plot structure in sight.
Crepuscule - 15k of pretty, no plot.
The King of Moths - Can't really work on this till I finish Dreams, alas.
Halls of Dust & Clay - More of a structure, but nowhere near ready. But it does have Loki...
TDC - 16k of fine, solid, upstanding young novel. I know what the next bits are. But it's not the novel that I want to be writing right now.
So, blah... What to do, what to do? Should I pick one and attack it come November 1st? Start something totally new? Turn November into a short story marathon? Run away and join the circus, where I shall be known as the Incredible Waffling Girl?

Pretty and useful day
Oct. 6th, 2005 02:12 pmToday is gorgeous. Cool and windy with a low ceiling of pewter clouds. Verah nice.
On my way back from lunch I stopped at the cd store, where I bought Blue Valentine and Frank's Wild Years and got smiled at by the cute girl working. On my way back to the library I spot another cute girl (who used to be an equally cute boy) standing by a booth on the lawn, so I stop by and find out about the Nov 8th vote on Amendment 2 (the anti-gay marriage howdy I'm a bigot amendment). I am smiled at yet again, and invited to a rally. Go me.
I suspect Waiting for the Frog has some mighty girl-smooching power that I have not yet explored. It gave me a story about gay frog girls, too.
The bear tells me I need discipline, and I try not to argue with mammals that might eat me, so for NaNo I'll be working on Prayers in an effort to force plot and structure into my brain. And
everyonesakitty twisted my arm, too. See, it's twisted. Ow.
