An infusion of incalculable power and irresistible temptation. Truly an exercise in megalomania and self-gratification: frankincense and cinnamon, darkened by violet.
In the vial: Frankincense and maybe a little violet. I'm not getting the cinnamon yet.
Wet: The same. Still no cinnamon. Smells a bit harsh on me.
Drydown: No dice. This smells very odd on me. The harshness reminds me of the badness that was Nyx, though not quite as much so. And then the harshness calms a bit and it gets soapy. Alas.
The legendary site of the Viking colony in Newfoundland founded circa 985 BC. Crisp northern wind blowing over loganberry, wild roses, prairie crocus, iris versicolor Linné, mountain avens, yellow birch bark, mayflower and maple leaf.
In the vial: Very sweet, a little tangy. Very outdoorsy.
Wet: Sweet and floral. I think I'm getting a whiff of the roses in there. It's a riotous sort of scent.
Drydown: Under the flowers it's woodsy. Very bright and shiny, and tangy underneath.
This is very pretty and complex, but I don't think it's for me. Into the swap pile it goes.
Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heav'n. This is our song to Lucifer, Lucis Ferre, Heosphoros, the Morning Star, the Brilliant One and the Son of the Morning. He is equated with Samhazai, the Heaven-Seizer, and Azazel, one of the 200 Fallen Angels of Enoch. The essence of overweening pride and unearthly angelic beauty. A regal scent, glowing darkly, elegant and patrician, but unfathomably desolate. Cherubic white sandalwood and golden musk with a dark halo of amber, a breath of imperial florals, unbending woods, and the shadow cast by vetiver and violet.
In the vial: Oooh. Sandalwood and musk. Pretty.
Wet: Sandalwood! And a little musk and maybe amber underneath, but mostly sandalwood. Pretty pretty.
Drydown: All sandalwood all the time.
