We saw it tonight, and I liked it. I didn't mind the timing of the plot unfolding, and I felt the ending held up. Sure, it's set up pretty clearly, but I don't think that's to its detriment. The characterization is a bit weak, and relies too much on Character Coupons. (Picture of dead father=deep emotional moment)
I was very happy that the magic wasn't wiggidy-wack, and that they kept the religious aspects of voodoo out of it. No random loa invoked and no damn veves scattered all over the place. And they played Iko Iko.
What I wish people would figure out is that Not All Southern Accents Are The Same. Georgians don't sound like Louisianans don't sound like Texans. Gabriel Knight suffered from this affliction as well.
Also, old Beetles...? Trunk in the front!
It needed a different title, too, I think.
