Here I am, stuck on I-35. I hate Dallas traffic, and pity all those poor cars. They are probably as noble and true as mine, but their innocent desire to go vroom is thwarted by idiot drivers.

Novel update for yesterday:
Words: 1017 (this was actually split between last night and this morning, but the gorilla can kiss my ass--I didn't hear him offering to get up at 6:30 this morning to take Steven to the airport.)
Words total: 47,772
Reason for stopping: My brain is dry and needs some sort of fluid changed.
Beverage: cinnamon vanilla nut coffee (this morning)
Mammalian interference: None at the moment, thank god.

Random booky thoughts for the day.

Beware the waters of midway, for they are murky and teem with suck-sharks. (Monkeys don't scare me enough, so my subconscious upgraded.) My suck-sharks have informed me in no uncertain terms that two of my characters (both second string, thank god) are not pulling their weight. I wish I could argue with the sharks, but I just can't. But I'm not stopping this time. No no no. I will finish this draft in all it's sucktastic glory. Then I will wail and rend my garments and try to fix the problems.

And my latest revelation is that I am no longer very interested in writing about my contemporaries. I am barrelling toward 25, but characters in their mid twenties aren't as interesting to me anymore. 25 is infinitely better than 15, but I can't help wanting to fast forward ahead about 5 years, character-wise. Everyone in Dreams who isn't a magical freak of some kind is in their twenties. Its sequel, the San Antonio book, is set about 6 months later, and I'm going to go forward with that timeline. After that, however, I think I'll work on something else for a while (this metaplot has dozens of books waiting to be written) and let Alex and Liz have a few years off. It will be interesting to see how they age. I'd also like to hope that my writing will have matured significantly by the time I'm 30. I'll keep telling myself that. :)

I hope I can be word-productive at work today, because I really need to clean my kitchen when I get home. Whee...
