I managed to get a story in the mail in the five minutes before work today, without needing to triple-check the address, or the SASE, or pet the manuscript, or generally dither. Which certainly means I spelled the editor's name wrong, or didn't use adequate postage. :P

Today is the first day of the semester. The students are back. I probably shouldn't hiss or growl at them, or eat them... Darn.

Does petting the manuscript help? Perhaps I should give that a try.

I'd like to think it makes the story feel better, before a slusher spills coffee on it, rejects it, and recycles it.

I don't see any problem with that, provided they're science undergrads and you use a good dressing.

Bon chance for the manuscript :)
