Books of many sizes by Amanda Downum
Books of many sizes, a photo by Amanda Downum on Flickr.

Two things arrived yesterday, but in the braineatenness of finishing a draft, I didn't blog about them.

Thing 1: My UK copies of Kingdoms are here! You will see from the picture (left to right: US edition, UK edition, new giant UK edition, and a normal US trade) that I've been upgraded to a new humungous size, and to an £8.99 price instead of £7.99. I apologize to any UK readers who prefer their paperbacks all the same size; this was beyond my control. On the the other hand, it's awfully fancy.

I'm not including the UK editions as Books for Boobs prizes right now because I don't get a box of 50 of them, but I may do a giveaway for one or two later.

Thing 2: Less exciting than books. On Wednesday I found a small tortoiseshell cat hanging out in my driveway. We talked a bit, I gave her a snack, she went on her way. Yesterday STC returned, yelling at the front door. Noticeably rounder than she was on Wednesday.

Oh yes, dear readers. I have contracted yet another terminal case of pregnant stray cat. This time the vet took me in the back to look at the ultrasound. They know me too well.

Anyone want to do a Cats for Boobs donation?

So now I need to think of a name for a young friendly tortie.

Bother; I am in the wrong geographical location to help out with cat-related issues (well, not all cat-related issues, but those cat-related issues, she said, looking around at the fierce and snoozy horde in her immediate vicinity).

(also, yay for shiny books!)

I once saw a poster for a lost cat named Shovel!

After visiting the Netherlands, I decided that I have to name cats after places like Zwolle and Enschede. Mostly just to mess with people. ;)

What about names from mythology? Something like Demeter or Hestia, Isis, Brigid, etc.? There's quite a good list of fertility deities on Wikipedia.

Ah, yes, Giant Books. Orbit do love those.
Lovely cover, however.
