Oopsy...

I never paid attention before, but in Fellowship, when the cave troll storms into Balin's tomb, he walks through the sunbeam several times. Oops.

It was...um. Indirect sunlight! Reflected! Cleverly! Through cobwebs! So it didn't really count!

perhaps. as in the Mummy, it is reflected. Some of its properties change as it is bounced below ground. Or, perhaps, the source is not sunlight. They were a way bit deep for it to be direct sunlight, because that really would be an odd place to have taken a core sample for mithril, right?
