“I hope he’s not planning to blackmail me.” She said it lightly, but even a joke sent a cold worm curling in her stomach. She only had one secret worth extorting, and she would be ruthless in keeping it.
“I’d turn his blood to sand if he tried.” Varis sighed. “Nikos should have formally appointed Varga months ago or not at all. But poor timing aside, I can’t fault the choice."
This won't be on page seven for long, since I'm dismembering the whole chapter and reassembling it with staples and rubber cement.
