23. How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story--from planning to writing to [submitting]?
If by story you mean novel, then ten million years. Short stories, eleven million. I have not, so far, managed to finish a novel in under a year. If I make my deadline--and even give or take a few months--Kingdoms will be the fastest book I've ever written.
Short stories take exactly as long as they want to take. I once finished a story in two days, and it was irreparably (at least to this day) broken.
