Ceci n'est pas un con report.
Nov. 2nd, 2009 02:00 pmNow I'm in the San Jose airport. Whee!
The con was lots of fun. Besides climbing, highlights include the Orbit party, where I met dozens of awesome people who I'd like to hang out with more often, and the Lovecraft Unbound reading. There was also shopping with
klwilliams,
la_marquise_de_, and
desperance. These people are horrible enablers: I went to the mall to get a nice professional blouse and came back with no blouse and a purple velvet jacket. I almost ended up with long purple leather gloves, too, and kind of regret not getting them now. Gail Carriger's Soulless party was about the fanciest thing ever, and had more chocolate than any one hotel suite should ever contain.
The con hotel was very nice, but I do feel that a hotel as swanky as the San Jose Fairmont needs offer just a few extras. Namely a) an airport shuttle, b) free wireless that doesn't involve jumping through hoops, and c) a business center that doesn't charge an $8 minimum for any printing or internet usage. But hey, the rooms were nice and there were no lines for the elevators, so that's something.
Also, the latest issue of On Spec appears to contain my story "Aconite & Rue".
Everyone kept saying how they've heard Austin is nice. Austin is nice. Everyone should come visit. Avoid June through September and I'll take you climbing, kayaking, gothing, and quesoing. Just ignore the rest of Texas and you'll be fine.
