What we read while we were sick

I really, really, really don't like bildungsromans, so the beginning of this was a bit of a slog, and made me pause frequently to remember how much I couldn't stand Memoirs Of A Geisha*. But, Jay can not only write his way out of a wet paper bag, but through several layers of reinforced concrete as well, so it got much better. I totally cried when Endurance showed up at the end.

*The movie, anyway. I haven't read the book. And seriously, it's a powerful hate that survives a movie that pretty. But the hate survives.
