Without a dream in my heart

End of chapter, and I had to stop because my word-hoard had not only locked itself, but was then stolen by Mongols. I'll have to go over that last scene again next time to find the word rep I'm sure lurks therein.
Today's chore was finding an easy and demonstrative mage trick that isn't calling light/fire. Because while magelights and conjured fire have many practical uses, as Baby's First Cantrip they are worn into the ground. Although, of course, fire would have been a nice echo back to the first scene, but oh well. I have, at least, mostly set up an indirect (non-Hasturian) spinoff book for the gangster mages, if I want to write it.
Sadly--or not--that 75k total isn't going to stand. This draft is already 7k longer than the last one, and whenever I find awfulness to cut I usually find something else to replace it with. And I'm coming up on Carcosa, which was the most underwritten section of the book.
Tonight at Chez Spoiled Puppy, dinner was liver with brown rice and peas, with a dash of dry dog food for crunchiness. The Beartrap seems to approve. Cooking the rice is a nuisance, but a tub of liver is cheaper than a can of wet dog food, so it's probably worth continuing.
The Beartrap also approves of autumn, what with the leaves that need smelling and chasing and crunching. Since I too approve of autumn, this is pleasing to me.
