Happy Halloween!
Oct. 31st, 2007 05:49 pmI'm in Connecticut. I have no costume, alas, but I have orange and black striped socks, which the staff of the Cincinnati airport seemed quite taken with.
Book #30 - The Music of Razors, by Cameron Rogers.
This book is every bit as beautiful and painful as the title suggests. It is also a lousy airplane book, if one doesn't like to cry in public. This is the kind of bookloff that's grown rare for me lately--I picked it up in the bookstore because I liked the title. Then the back blurb didn't sound stupid. Then the first page was good, so I took it home. And then the whole book was good! It's like a miracle!
It has angels, and closet monsters, and tigers, and circus music! (Okay, the music was mostly in my head.) And love and heartbreak and bruising tragedy handled with such a subtle love and hope and gentleness... Well, see the aforementioned crying in public.
Now I'll sit around and drink wine and do whatever it is Bears do for Halloween in their native habitat. And tomorrow, New York!
