Friday memery
Oct. 26th, 2007 03:29 pmAnd now, the icon meme.
copperwise asked me about these seven:
This was made at the request of
elisem, who wanted icons using that line, which is the last line of Rilke's Archaïscher Torso Apollos. The picture is of Rilke's tombstone.
This, of course, is the yellow sign. Have you seen it? This was designed by Kevin Ross for Call of Cthulhu, sayeth wiki. The sign is never actually described in the original Chambers' story, but I love this version. Enough to ink it forever into my flesh, even. It's hard to pick a favorite CCD, but Hastur is high on the list. I made this icon when I was writing Dreams--I think it was my very first LJ icon, actually.
More Rilke! More Hastur! Ia! This is cover art for some edition of Robert Chambers' The King in Yellow, the primary source for the Hastur we know and love today. The text is from Rilke's Duino Elegies, and translates to "Every angel is terrible." The picture looks a bit like Orko, or an avenging Jawa angel, and that fills me with glee.
Still more Rilke! Why yes, I have the love. This is Tilda Swinton as Gabriel standing on Keanu Reeves. Tilda should stand on people in more movies, and someone really ought to step on whoever was in charge of casting Constantine. The line also comes from the Duino Elegies, and means "near-deadly birds of the soul". I have a great love of terrible angels.
Fin Fang Foom! He's a giant lizard who wears purple underpants--this can only be made of win and awesome. The art and the text come from Warren Ellis' reimagining of Fin Fang Foom for Nextwave. This issue also gave us the immortal line, "Oh my god, it's wearing underpants."
Bowie at his hottest. The pic is from a video of "Seven Years in Tibet", and makes it looks as if he's breathing fire, or has a forked tongue. Umm... I'll be in my bunk.
The picture and the text are from The Fountain. Since finishing stories is something I need to do more often, I made this to remind me.
If anyone else wants to play, just comment.
