The novel hates me with the fire of many burny things, but the day was not lost. With the help of chat, I determined that the other sporkable thing the notahighlander book needs is a vampire. So now I have a ghoul highlander (played by Robert Carlyle), a brittle bitchy demon hunter (PJ Harvey), and a probably-not-very-angsty New Wave vampire (Jim Jarmusch). Maybe they can have a creepy dysfunctional love triangle.

Fear my brain.

Now it needs a plot, and a title. Then you will really know fear.

Conrad Aiken to the rescue!

Inspiration has struck. The vamp wouldn't tell me his name because he is in fact a she. Now that that's sorted, things are falling into place nicely.

And then the epigraph attacked:

Ghostly above us in lamplight the towers gleam...
And after a while they will fall to dust and rain;
Or else we will tear them down with impatient hands;
And hew rock out of the earth, and build them again.

Which in turn gives me a working title, Dust and Rain. (Since I already have a Dust & Clay, this will probably have to change eventually.)

So now I have the three MCs--Dominic, Saben, and Molly--and their respective sinister organizations, perhaps squabbling to fill a void left by the events of Prayers. Now I just need some actual plot, and perhaps a truckload of demons.
