Or, what a difference a model makes.

I like having visual representations for my characters. I find it makes it easier to describe them and give them individual kinetics, instead of everybody becoming a smiling nodding twitching mess of eyebrows with interchangeable hair colors. I also like to sketch characters, and that goes much better if I have a picture to work from. To these ends, I tend to cast my stories with people I can find pictures of.

And sometimes, knowing what a character looks like makes all the difference.

Today's example, the ghoul Sycorax, who will one day be the antag in Prayers, when I finally get around to writing it. She also decided to show up in the 20s pulpstravaganza. She's always been red-haired and skinny and sharp-featured in my head, (and rather inhuman, but we ignore that when looking for models), but kind of amorphous, and that definitely showed when I tried to write her.

Originally, I had described her to myself like this .

Now I realize she really looks more like this . (Except skinner and with a tail, but yanno, use your imagination).

And bam, all of a sudden she's talking to me. At great length. And has kidnapped all the Tindalosi girls to go try on hats. I still can't win with any of them, but it's a start.

In other news, I am feeling so much better today. I've switched from Vicodin to Ibuprofin, and that has made leaving the house and actually working much more viable
