23. The Virtu - Sarah Monette

I liked this a lot, much more than Melusine (which I liked too). I have a much-needed sense of context for Felix now, and I loff Mildmay as much as ever. Also ghouls, and giant spooky clocks. When I finally finish The Bone Palace (formerly Crepuscule), no one will ever believe I did not rip off the labyrinth bit. :P

I want a giant spooky clock too.

I also want Isyllt to shut the hell up about 1st person. Really. "Felix and Mildmay get to" is not a valid narrative reason. Neither is "But all the other Mary Sues get to." "It'll up the word count," is, however, a little tempting.

The Drowning City
Words today: 1061
Words total: 26,510
Reason for stopping: Quota, and I wanna go read The Lies of Locke Lamora. And my back aches and I want out of this chair. (If I sat like a normal human, this might be less of a problem.)
Sustenance: pasketti
Mammalian assistance: I won't get out of Siggy's chair, so she had to sit on the back for a while. Sadly, her butt is too wide for chair-backs.
Darling: n/a
Tyop: wreached up, a heavy silver hoot in her ear
Mean things: Adam's girlfriend broke up with him. He's a saaaaad panda.

We ended the 1st person discussion once and for all. She'll get 3rd and like it.

Other writerly stuff: Still tripping over Garden edits. Which is not so great, as there's a deadline. And I just got a title for a theoretical pirate novel that would follow some side characters from TDC several years afterward. It is theoretically now called Quartering Sea. Which in turn demands another book called Following Sea. Nice to know I won't run out of ideas for a while yet.

I have shiny beads and want to make bracelets, but my clasps are still traveling from from foreign lands. Wah!
