I am issuing myself an eleven*-book challenge. I have a metric ass-load of library books in the house, including many fiction books I haven't read. I plan on returning all these books before we move in 4 & 1/2 months, so I should make a concerted effort to either read them or decide not to read them.

They are (Because you know I love lists):

Troll - Johanna Sinisalo (started, enjoyed what I read, but put it down one day and wandered off)
Night Shade: Gothic tales by women (haven't started)
Dragon - Steven Brust (It's Vlad, of course I love it--I must have put it down when I stopped working on TDC)
Issola - Steven Brust (haven't started)
Lost - Gregory Maguire (started, interested, but still managed to walk off)
Shooting at Midnight - Greg Rucka (started, pretty good, must read more to make up my mind)
The Lady and the Unicorn - Tracy Chevalier (started, enjoyed what I read, got distracted)
Diamond Dogs/Turquoise Days - Alistair Reynolds (How can I not read a book with this title?)
The Between - Tananarive Due (started, pretty good, got distracted)
The Dragon and the Unicorn - A. A. Attanasio (haven't started)
Dawn - Octavia Butler (started, annoyed by protag, still ambivalent)

These will come after I finish Vellum (I want to have Hal Duncan's platonic wordbabies!), but maybe before I start the dozen other books-I've-bought that are on the reading pile. And then there's [livejournal.com profile] jmeadows' Toil. Gah! *hides under the blankie*

-----
* I can't believe I only have eleven fiction books out of the 50-odd I have checked out. This may end up being the 15 or 20 book challenge as I discover more lying around.

[livejournal.com profile] tanaise is conducting a poll about writing & submitting. If you write and submit (sff, preferably), go fill it out . She has ticky boxes just for you.

Today I went over Chapter 4 of Prayers, which is mercifully okay, if a little thin in places. As long as it doesn't have plot problems, I can fix it next draft.

Then I rewrote the first chapter of Dreams. Sweet. Jumping. Baphomet. I added a new scene to the beginning, and hacked and slashed the rest, losing 600 words by the end. I could weep. I miss my sexy opening line. And I think I still hate the main expository conversation, even when it's cut in half.

Writing is hard.
