"Flotsam"
Words today: 1600
Words total: 3631
Reason for stopping: finally out of steam
Tyop: n/a
Darling: ...her kiss tastes of blood and salt, tastes like a shipwreck.
Assistance: the boy is crazy on painkillers
Exercise: 15 minutes gothercise

I have achieved fishsmut. I suspect that if one is to write fishsmut, one should have the balls to go the distance, but alas I tastefully faded to black after the smooching started. The pronouns were getting annoying anyway.

Some words on the angel book, too, but not enough to record. Maybe after I finish Flotsam I can settle down on the novel again.

I just posted this to the 'orkshop ML, but will put it here too.

I've noticed some confusion regarding passive voice in workshop crits recently.

1. Incorrect advice is being given.

2. You are giving incorrect advice.

3. You have given incorrect advice.

Only one of these sentences is in passive voice. That would be sentence #1.

Passive voice means that the actor is absent from the sentence, or deprived of agency. Past perfect tense is not passive voice. Be-verbs are not passive voice. Weak verbs are not passive voice.

Passive voice = a form of 'to be' + a past participle.

'was given', 'was not done', 'is being ignored', etc., as opposed to 'I gave', 'I didn't do', or 'I am ignoring'.

'It was Tuesday' is not passive voice. 'I had gone shopping' is not passive voice. 'The envelope was mailed' IS passive.

Passive voice is not wrong, though it robs narrative strength if overused. There are some instances where passive voice is perfectly fine.

Weak verbs, past perfect verb constructions, and overuse of passive voice are all things to watch out for in writing, but it helps to know which is which.

The English major is frustrated by the lack of distinction.

Progress!

I got distracted by twit-critters, but "Flotsam" is done, weighing in at 4550 words of angsty fish-sex. I now have a trifecta of sappy deep-one stories.
