Miscellania

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] jmeadows!

An old friend of mine and his wife moved to Arlington. Friends! Within (long and convoluted) driving distance! People in the flesh! They have more animals than we do. More than [livejournal.com profile] jmeadows, even. Kitties and corgis and tortoises, oh my.

Also, I think it's time I took a nom de Goth. So from now on, my name in all things Goth shall be Amalasuntha II.

Switching from tight 3rd to omni sucketh mightily.

The world building game

I'm worldbuilding as I go with Isyllt's book, mostly trying to make the city in which the story's set cool and detailed, and working outward from there. I always get kind of neurotic about worldbuilding (and you ask what doesn't she get neurotic about?), so I pose this question to you, dear readers?

What failures in worldbuilding bug you the most when you're reading fantasyland fantasy? What do you think is often not explored well enough to suit you? What will toss you right out of an otherwise acceptable book?
