John Scalzi wants SF cliches!

Someone is soliciting well-written, emotionally invested stories based on SF tropes. Be still my heart.

For this, I will make my brain write SF. What cliches need tackling? Amazon moon women? Savage jungles at the center of the earth?

Lovecraft's Heir
Your Mythos Knowledge score is 117!

"You know what's going on, possibly as well as Lovecraft himself, and
that knowledge has pushed your SAN to the limit. You probably seem
insane to those who don't know, but you don't care. You know what's
going to happen when the Great Old Ones awaken, but you haven't really
accepted it yet. Good luck."

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:
You scored higher than 99% on elderpoints

The council of elders have convened, and have issued their decree that the kitten Fafnir-boo is no longer a kitten, but has reached the time of his majority. Preparations have begun for the Ritual of Adulthood.

This evening, Fafnir-boo shall begin a twelve hour fast, imbibing only water and drawing what sustenance he can from chewing his toes.

In the morning, Fafnir-boo shall be placed in a ceremonial cage and driven to the Place of Snipping. There he shall be attended by a score of nubile Vet Tech priestesses. The priestesses shall give him poppy's milk and other tinctures, that he may not remember the arcane rite of testicle snipping.

After the ancient and unknowable rites have been performed, Fafnir shall be returned to his home and welcomed as an adult by Queen Psycho and Queen Fluffypants. He shall learn to comport himself with dignity and no longer hump his sister Siggy-bit, who--though comely--has a small head and is not suited for breeding.

Chris Eccleston just topped the list of people I'm going to capture and keep on a boy preserve. I will take very good care of him, of course.

Mrrrrrrrrow.

If you ever wanted a visual reference for Alex and Liz, the Doctor and Rose come amazingly close. And since Alex is a Capricorn, and like the Doctor (though in a much less literal sense) aging backward, he might be that goofy by the time he's 35 or so.

I feel much more envigorated to write that novel now.

Also, 684 words today, and I've finished the first draft of "Ebb". Woo, fishgirls!
