Monsters in caves

Today marks 8 weeks since Violet went to SciFiction, and I may now officially fret. *frets* I'll wait another week before I query, but I greatly fear post office mishap.

I succumb to the lure of sequelitis now, and will start work on The King of Moths next. Hopefully when I write the beginning of that, they'll tell me exactly what happened at the end of Dreams. I have 1100 words from NaNo that really don't suck. Unfortunately, one of those scenes is a monster in a cave, and the other is a mopey boy in a grubby apartment. A stronger opening would be nice. At least the monster isn't eating a cat.

Darling du jour: The cave swallowed light and left no bones.
Exercise: Sweeping the porch, where a mighty collection of bones, feathers and squirrel tails had amassed. Weights tonight.

I finally gave in and wrote the monster in a cave scene, followed by an angsty scene. And suddenly the book put out. Bah. Even when I don't want to write like a damn hack, I can't escape it.

I want to make Magpie Mind shirts on Cafepress. Slogans might include "Hack" and "Derivative and Proud Of It," and maybe "Ooh, Shiny!". I need a cute magpie logo.
