My beloved Sigrdrifa, Victory Blizzard, former holmgang champion and fighter of dogs, is doing very poorly. Her kidneys are giving out, and the vet is noncommittal about her prognosis. But she's only 12, and I love my cat, and fuck this terrible year, so I'm going to do what I can to let her come home and be happily cantankerous again, at least for a while.

Because I would like to pay off these vet bills while Siggy is still alive, I refer you to Still So Strange Studios. Everything there is still at last year's holiday discount price.

I've also purchased many beautiful necklaces from [livejournal.com profile] elisem over the years. Many of them have given me stories, but too many have been languishing in my jewelry box for years, not spreading delight in the world as they should. So with their maker's blessing, I'm now offering them to new homes. I purchased most of them on sale or through the Artist Challenge program, so I'm passing those savings on to you. (Also, silver has tarnished over the years. I'll polish them as best I can before I send them on, but they may never sparkle quite as bright.)

"Big Bad Frog Witch" (Recent photo) $90

"Doll With a Ghost In It". 153 inches long, and full of stories. (Recent photos) $130

"The Etiology of Angst In Angels, Volume II", sandcast glass, mother of pearl, glass, dyed shell, moonstone, aquamarine, mysterious recycled bead and spacers, sterling silver. About 52 inches long. (Recent photo) $90 SOLD!

"Somewhere In The Sky", glass, labradorite, picasso jasper, moss agate, various stones; someone described this as neo-Victorian mourning jewelry, which has a good bit of truth to it. (Current photos) $100

"Summer-Colored Where The Bones Shine Through" I don't have the original description of this. It's long, and full of things. I can measure it if anyone's interested. Current photos) $130 SOLD!

If you're interested, please email me at exoblivione AT gmail DOT com. I have PayPal and Google Wallet, or we can work something out. Shipping is $10 (including insurance) in the US and $15 for Canada. For overseas sales I'll calculate shipping as needed.

I don't have the original cards for most of these, but I'll recreate them to the best of my ability.

My WorldCon was an unexpected whirlwind of delights. The obvious highlight was when [livejournal.com profile] matociquala and I presented the Campbell Award and I got to give the tiara and brand new scepter to an astronaut. Then Jessica Jones won a Hugo for "Smile," which filled me with violent, vicious glee. But I think my true favorite moment came during the Losers Party, when the band struck up the Time Warp for the second time. I don't believe I've ever been to a two-Time Warp party before, and I'm very grateful to [livejournal.com profile] grrm for providing that experience. I also participated in great panels, and had a blast with new friends and old friends and random passers-by. I am making every effort to attend in Helsinki next year.

And if you happened to see my Hugos dress, which I hope someone got a good picture of, I'll let you in on a little secret: Jobst: It Stays. I bought a backless bra to wear with that dress which completely failed to function. So in a moment of panic I borrowed [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's sock adhesive and glued myself into the dress. Everything stayed where it was supposed to for ten (10) hours, perfectly comfortably, even through the aforementioned two rounds of the Time Warp. Sorcery!

My agent sent me her notes for The Poison Court just before WorldCon. Now that I'm beginning to recover from the excesses of the con--not to mention driving to Minneapolis and back in four days immediately afterward--I will buckle down and turn those around. I also need to get cracking on another project, and figure out the three short stories I have in various degrees of completion.

First of all, everything at Still So Strange Studios has been deeply discounted for the holidays.

But, that is not the only reason I have called you all here today.

I have purchased many beautiful necklaces from [livejournal.com profile] elisem over the years. "Circus Angel II", which gave me my story "Catch." (Recent photo) $100 SOLD!

"Doll With a Ghost In It". 153 inches long, and full of stories. (Recent photos) $150

Two updates. Or maybe three.

1. Still So Strange Studios is now a functioning Etsy shop.

2. I have launched a Patreon campaign. This is specifically intended to help lift the weight of the world a fraction of an inch so I can finish The Poison Court in a timely fashion. Savedra partisans, please check it out.

3. I haven't been quite as slack at blogging as this LJ indicates. Right now the Necromancer Chronicles is getting the bulk of my updates while I'm trying to shake the kinks out of my primary website.

My fundraiser for Still So Strange Studios was a success, and I'm now making jewelry again. Getting my Etsy shop up and running is slow going, but if you'd like a preview of what I've been working on, click upon my links, ye mighty, and despair.

My jewelry not-a-Kickstarter is going remarkably well. It's nearly 90% funded with over a month to go*. I've placed my first supply order, and will do another next week. These purchases include PEARLS, because two of those have already been claimed. So if you want Savedra's pearls, jump on that last set quickly.

But with over a month left, I might as well make stretch goals or new perk options or whatnot? Any suggestions? Things you would like to see created or things you think would be good enticement for random passersby?

* Tell my baby sister not to do as I have done, and pay more attention to the fine print with these sorts of things. All credit card contributions will be tied up until the end of the campaign, so some orders must wait until the whole two months are up. Grumph.

Today I'm excited to announce the launch of Still So Strange Studios.

The roller-coaster that was 2013 and 2014 has left me with the desire for creative outlets, and the need to make money on those creative endeavors. And while writing will always be my first love and career, it's not exactly known for its steady paychecks. So I turn back to jewelry-making.

Necromancer fans take note: the uppermost perks are made with you in mind.

And LJ doesn't want to embed, apparently, so follow the link to my IndieGoGo page.

Coilhouse has led me to a YouTube wonderland: cyber industrial dance videos. I've never been crazy about the neon extensions and furry leg warmers, but these are my people. I dance just like this. I would dance just like this in the streets of Germany.

(Take note of 0:54. That guy is my soul mate.)

Why am I not in Germany right now?

Character sketches

I will draw any of my characters, either a head shot like my Shadow Unit pictures, or a complete figure drawing, color or black and white. No requests for wacky poses please--I'm not a professional artist. Everything will be at least 8.5 x 11". Since I do a lot of touching up in Photoshop, these will be prints, not original pencil sketches.

$6.00 for a black & white sketch, $10.00 for color.

$3.00 shipping for up to 5 prints, or I can send you a PDF for free.

Important note on artwork: because of upcoming travel, none of these sketches will be finished, let alone shipped, until July. I will send you a postcard from Dublin or Stockholm, though.

If you want to buy something, comment here. If you're reading this but don't have an LJ, email me at exoblivione AT gmail DOT com, with "LJ book sale" in the subject. I'll confirm your total and give you my PayPal address. PayPal only please! I prefer non-credit card, but if credit card is all you have, that's okay--just let me know which you'll be using.

Any questions?
stillsostrange: (The Drowning City)
The Orbit France site has a book trailer for La Cité des eaux. How awesome is that? (The text goes by too fast for my poor French to keep up.)

I started to make my own trailer for TDC back in the day, but it fell prey to the apathy demon. I should make one for Kingdoms.

[livejournal.com profile] saladinahmed needs a map. And if you are an awesome cartographical whizz and can hook him up, I may also have work for you.

At last it can be shown:

Once again my artist is Larry Rostant, and I'm thrilled. Isn't it pretty? Aside from the...endowments...that could be Isyllt.

(Yes, she's going to have a lot of sand in her push-up bra.)

ETA: Orbit has a cover launch post up, which includes the flap copy for Kingdoms (coming soon to my website). THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE BONE PALACE. Just so you know.
stillsostrange: (Plot Octopus)
The magic of LJ comes through again! I figured out my elephant. I also named my warrior priests--they ended up being the red pilgrims, but thanks for all the suggestions. Bonus thanks to [livejournal.com profile] desperance, because "the Risen" is excellent and I'll have to use it somewhere, and to [livejournal.com profile] lindensphinx, because I found another home for Illumined.

Now I have to insert the newly-discovered elephant into relevant scenes, and prepare for the elephant stampede that now gets to happen somewhere in the second part of the book. Okay, maybe that metaphor has run its course. Nonetheless, I look forward to the stampede.

Also, I feel that I should sing the praises of my publisher. Remember the cover art prints Orbit was giving away? Anna-my-UK-editor sent me one! I now have a gorgeous print of the yellow Bone Palace cover, which I've framed and will soon hang.

I just read [livejournal.com profile] saladinahmed's "Hooves and the Hovel of Abdel Jameela". This story is beautiful and beautifully written, and I wish to sing its praises across the internets.

Now all my ghouls are sad they don't have hooves.

These pictures and their story kick so much ass.

One more post before the moss troll ichor kicks in. There is a new Shadow Unit episode up tonight, and I helped. Why don't I write cheerful stories, again?

Please, moss troll ichor, kick in soon and send me bizarre and coughless dreams.

Oh, speaking of trolls, I keep forgetting to blog my recently developed problem with Troll Beads. I should do that one of these days.

My cover artist (and the delight of my eyes) Larry Rostant has updated his website to include the TDC and Bone Palace covers, with two older versions of the Bone Palace cover and a TDC variant I hadn't seen before. Behold the evolution of shiny.

[livejournal.com profile] elisem is having a sale!. Go forth and buy discounted shinies, and write stories about them!

[livejournal.com profile] magicnoire, [livejournal.com profile] pjthompson, [livejournal.com profile] jennythe_reader, and [livejournal.com profile] csinman, please comment and tell me some of your favorites: colors, stones, animals, types of jewelry, poems, songs, musicians, etc.

You're lucky I can't quite justify kittens as something I made myself, or that's what you'd all be getting.

Today I went back to Atomic and got my skull colored. This only took 45 minutes, and hurt much less. In fact, it cured my PMS crankiness. Scott continues to be awesome.

The picture is pretty blurry, but it shows off the lovely spectral glow of it. And it matches [livejournal.com profile] elisem's Circus Angel II so well that I may have to write another story for it.

With that out of the way, I guess I should go back to the STET mines...
